Ingredients
Scale
2 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 cup Plain Greek Yogurt (full fat recommended)
1 large Egg (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon Water (for egg wash)
Optional Toppings: Sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion, salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the Greek yogurt to the dry ingredients. Mix with a spatula until a shaggy dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 5 to 7 minutes until the dough is smooth and no longer sticky. You are building structure here.
Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a rope about 8 inches long. Join the ends together to form a circle, pinching the seam firmly to seal.
In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water together for the egg wash. Brush the tops and sides of each bagel generously with the wash.
Sprinkle your desired toppings over the wet surface of the bagels.
Place the prepared bagels on the lined baking sheet.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the bagels are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack before slicing and enjoying.
Notes
Using full-fat Greek yogurt gives the best texture for these quick bagels.
Make sure you seal the bagel seam tightly; this prevents them from opening during baking.
This recipe makes a softer, slightly cake-like bagel compared to traditional boiled yeast bagels, but it is very fast.
You can adjust the baking time slightly if you prefer a darker crust.
