- 6 fresh mint leaves
- 4 fresh blueberries
- 0.5 oz simple syrup
- 2 oz bourbon
- Crushed ice
- Mint sprig for garnish
- 3 extra blueberries for garnish
- Place the mint leaves, blueberries, and simple syrup into a Julep cup or sturdy glass.
- Gently muddle the ingredients together. Press lightly to release the oils from the mint and the juice from the blueberries; do not shred the mint.
- Add the bourbon to the cup.
- Fill the cup two-thirds full with crushed ice. Stir briefly to combine the ingredients and chill the mixture.
- Top the drink with more crushed ice to form a dome shape.
- Garnish the drink with a fresh mint sprig inserted near the straw and thread the extra blueberries onto the mint stem or place them near the rim.
Notes
- For best results, use a high-proof bourbon with strong vanilla or caramel notes.
- If you do not have a Julep cup, use a metal tumbler or a heavy rocks glass.
- To make a non-alcoholic version, substitute the bourbon with 2 oz of sparkling water or chilled white grape juice.
