Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Milk (whole or preferred type)
  • 1/4 cup Heavy Cream
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 cup Strong Brewed Coffee or Espresso
  • 1/4 cup Crushed Peppermint Candy Canes (plus extra for garnish)
  • Whipped Cream (for topping)
  • 2 small Candy Canes (for stirring/garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk in the strong brewed coffee or espresso until fully combined.
  5. Stir in the 1/4 cup of crushed peppermint candies until they begin to melt slightly.
  6. Pour the hot chocolate mixture into two mugs.
  7. Top each serving generously with whipped cream.
  8. Garnish with extra crushed candy canes and a whole candy cane for stirring.

Notes

  • You can use dark chocolate chips instead of cocoa powder for an even richer flavor.
  • For a lighter drink, use low-fat milk.
  • Adjust the coffee strength based on how much caffeine you prefer.
  • Crush the candy canes inside a sturdy plastic bag using a rolling pin.
