Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, toss the apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Place the apple mixture evenly in your prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, and granulated sugar for the topping.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using your fingertips or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  8. Drizzle generously with caramel sauce.
  9. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • You can use a mix of apple varieties for depth of flavor.
  • For extra crunch, add 1/4 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the crisp topping.
  • If your apples are very tart, increase the brown sugar slightly in the filling.
