Ingredients
Scale
1 cup water
1/2 cup oatmilk (plus more for frothing)
1 black tea bag (or 1 tsp loose leaf)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
Pinch of ground cloves
Pinch of ground black pepper
1-2 teaspoons maple syrup (or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 shot espresso (optional, for an extra boost)
Instructions
Combine water, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and black pepper in a small saucepan.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Let it simmer for 5 minutes to steep the chai spices.
Remove the pan from the heat. Add the black tea bag to the spiced water and let it steep for 3 minutes.
Remove the tea bag. Stir in the maple syrup and vanilla extract.
If using espresso, pour it into your mug now.
Pour the spiced tea concentrate into your mug.
Heat the oatmilk until hot, either on the stovetop or in the microwave.
Froth the hot oatmilk using a frother or by shaking it vigorously in a jar with a tight lid.
Pour the frothed oatmilk over the chai base in your mug.
Enjoy this comforting warmth immediately.
Notes
You can increase the spice quantities if you prefer a stronger chai flavor.
For a caffeine-free version, skip the espresso shot entirely.
Sweetness levels are adjustable; taste the tea base before adding the milk.
Using homemade vanilla extract deepens the flavor profile.
