Transform leftover chocolate babka into a decadent bread pudding with this easy recipe. It’s a custardy, rich dessert perfect for using up delicious babka.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (about 1 pound) chocolate babka, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: Chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or fresh berries for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the babka cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the babka cubes, ensuring all pieces are moistened. Gently press down on the babka to help it absorb the custard.
  5. Let the mixture sit for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes, to allow the babka to soak up the custard.
  6. If desired, sprinkle any optional toppings over the pudding.
  7. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the pudding is set and golden brown on top. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
  8. Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For an extra rich pudding, you can use all heavy cream instead of milk and cream.
  • If your babka is very fresh, you might need to let it soak for a bit longer.
  • Serve warm with whipped cream, ice cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
