Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a donut pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate large bowl, whisk the 1/2 cup sugar, egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until no dry streaks remain. Do not overmix.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan wells, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. While the donuts bake, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon together in a shallow dish.
  8. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack to cool slightly more.
  9. While the donuts are still warm, dip each side into the cinnamon sugar mixture, coating them well.
  10. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • You can use a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with the corner snipped off to fill the donut wells neatly.
  • Make sure your baking powder is fresh for the best rise.
  • This recipe tastes best the day it is made.
