You will love this old-fashioned pea salad recipe. It is creamy, comforting, and packed with savory bacon and sharp cheddar cheese, making it a perfect side dish for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans sweet peas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the drained peas, crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped red onion, and chopped hard-boiled eggs into a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until the dressing is smooth. This makes the best pea salad dressing.
  3. Pour the creamy dressing over the pea mixture.
  4. Gently fold all ingredients together until everything is evenly coated.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill the salad in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to blend.
  6. Serve this classic pea salad cold as a satisfying side dish for potlucks or BBQs.

Notes

  • You can prepare this creamy vegetable salad up to one day ahead. Keep it covered in the refrigerator.
  • For an extra layer of flavor, toast the bacon slightly before crumbling it.
  • If you prefer a tangier dressing, substitute apple cider vinegar for the white vinegar.
