Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
4 slices Swiss cheese
4 hamburger buns
Optional: Lettuce and tomato for topping
Instructions
Gently mix ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into four equal patties.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the mushrooms. Cook for 2 more minutes until fragrant. Remove mushroom mixture from the skillet and set aside.
Cook the burger patties in the same skillet over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness.
Place one slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking. Let it melt slightly.
Lightly toast the hamburger buns, if desired.
Assemble the burgers: place a cheese-topped patty on each bottom bun. Top with the cooked mushroom mixture. Add lettuce and tomato if you like. Place the top bun on.
Serve your flavorful burgers immediately.
Notes
You can use your favorite ground meat blend for this recipe.
For extra flavor, mix a pinch of dried thyme into the mushroom mixture.
We find that medium heat gives the best sear without overcooking the inside.
