Ingredients
Scale
1 cup strong brewed coffee
1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (use less if strong)
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup (optional, for extra richness)
Whipped cream, for topping
Crushed peppermint candies, for garnish
Instructions
Brew your coffee strong. Set aside.
In a small saucepan, combine the milk, cocoa powder, and sugar.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the peppermint extract and chocolate syrup, if using.
Pour the hot chocolate-mint mixture into your brewed coffee. Stir well to combine.
Pour the mocha into your favorite mug.
Top generously with whipped cream.
Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies over the whipped cream.
Enjoy your homemade copycat peppermint mocha.
Notes
For a richer chocolate flavor, melt a small amount of dark chocolate into the milk mixture instead of using only cocoa powder.
Adjust the peppermint extract carefully; a little goes a long way. Taste before adding the full amount.
Use cold milk and heat the mixture gently if you prefer an iced version.
