Ingredients
Scale
8 cups apple cider
1 cup water
1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
1 cinnamon stick
6 whole cloves
3 star anise
1/2 teaspoon whole allspice berries
1 orange, sliced
2 apples, cored and sliced
Instructions
Combine apple cider, water, honey (if using), cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and allspice berries in a slow cooker.
Add the sliced orange and apples to the slow cooker.
Stir everything gently to combine.
Cover and cook on low for 2-4 hours, or on high for 1-2 hours, until the flavors have melded and the cider is heated through.
Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
Strain the cider before serving, or serve with the spices and fruit still in the pot for a beautiful presentation.
Ladle into mugs and enjoy your cozy mulled apple cider.
Notes
For a spicier cider, add a few slices of fresh ginger.
If you don’t have whole spices, you can use 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves, and a pinch of ground allspice.
