Ingredients
Scale
2 cups shredded potatoes (like Russet), squeezed very dry
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons melted butter or oil, plus more for the waffle iron
Instructions
Squeeze as much liquid as possible from the shredded potatoes. Wrap them in a clean kitchen towel and twist hard to remove excess moisture. This step is key for crispiness.
In a medium bowl, toss the dry potatoes with flour, salt, and pepper until lightly coated.
Brush your waffle iron plates generously with melted butter or oil. Preheat the iron.
Place half of the potato mixture onto the center of the hot waffle iron. Close the lid gently but firmly. Do not press down hard.
Cook for 6 to 10 minutes, or until the hash brown waffle is deeply golden brown and very crispy. Cooking time varies by waffle iron.
Carefully remove the hash brown waffle with a spatula. Repeat with the remaining potato mixture.
Serve immediately and enjoy your crispy creation.
Notes
Make sure your potatoes are extremely dry before mixing; wet potatoes steam instead of crisping.
You can add finely chopped onion or a pinch of garlic powder to the potato mixture for extra flavor.
If your waffle iron has adjustable heat, use a medium-high setting for the best results.
