Enjoy a quick and flavorful Korean Beef Bowl with marinated, grilled beef over rice, capturing the classic sweet and savory bulgogi taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (rice wine)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • Optional toppings: sliced green onions, sesame seeds, shredded carrots

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, mirin, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade and toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the marinated beef in a single layer, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  5. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
  6. Serve the cooked bulgogi over warm cooked rice.
  7. Add your favorite optional toppings like green onions, sesame seeds, or shredded carrots.

Notes

  • For best results, use thinly sliced beef. You can often find pre-sliced beef for bulgogi at Asian markets.
  • Adjust the sweetness and saltiness of the marinade to your preference.
  • If you don’t have mirin, you can substitute with dry sherry or white wine with a pinch of sugar.
