Simple recipe for baked, cheesy BBQ chicken sliders made on sweet rolls, perfect for parties or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works well)
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (12-count) package sweet Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the shredded chicken, BBQ sauce, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix until the chicken is fully coated.
  3. Slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the rolls connected in one piece.
  4. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Spread the BBQ chicken mixture evenly over the bottom layer of rolls.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the chicken mixture.
  7. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese layer.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter and poppy seeds (if using). Brush this mixture evenly over the top of the rolls.
  9. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  10. Bake for 15 minutes covered.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the rolls are lightly golden brown.
  12. Slice the sliders apart along the roll seams before serving.

Notes

  • You can use any cooked chicken, such as slow cooker shredded chicken or leftover grilled chicken.
  • For extra flavor, add a thin slice of dill pickle or red onion inside each slider before baking.
  • These sliders reheat well; cover loosely with foil and warm in a 300 degree oven for 10 minutes.
