Prepare a simple, flavorful dinner using chicken breasts and broccoli florets cooked together on one pan with a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (slurry)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes to make the sauce base.
  3. Place the cut chicken pieces on one half of the prepared baking sheet and the broccoli florets on the other half. Drizzle the chicken with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the broccoli with the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Season both lightly with salt and pepper.
  4. Pour half of the prepared honey garlic sauce over the chicken pieces, tossing gently to coat. Leave the broccoli uncoated for now.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast for 12 minutes.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven. Pour the remaining half of the sauce over the broccoli. Stir the chicken and broccoli gently to combine everything.
  7. Return the pan to the oven and roast for another 8 to 10 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F) and the broccoli is tender-crisp.
  8. While the pan finishes cooking, pour the cornstarch slurry into the remaining sauce base you set aside earlier. Heat this mixture in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens slightly, about 1 minute. This is your glaze.
  9. Remove the pan from the oven. Drizzle the thickened glaze over the chicken and broccoli mixture. Garnish with sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken thighs for breasts if you prefer a richer flavor.
  • For extra flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil to the sauce base.
  • If you do not have parchment paper, lightly grease the baking sheet.
