Cook tender steak and crisp asparagus together on one sheet pan using a rich garlic butter sauce for a simple, flavorful weeknight dinner with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 lb fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lemon, zested (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to create the garlic butter mixture. Set aside.
  3. Place the cubed steak on one half of the prepared sheet pan. Drizzle with olive oil and toss lightly.
  4. Place the trimmed asparagus on the other half of the sheet pan.
  5. Brush or spoon half of the garlic butter mixture evenly over the steak cubes. Brush or drizzle the remaining half over the asparagus spears.
  6. Place the sheet pan in the preheated oven. Roast for 10 to 14 minutes. Cooking time depends on your desired steak doneness (10 minutes for medium-rare, 14 minutes for medium).
  7. Remove the pan from the oven. If using, sprinkle the lemon zest over the steak and asparagus.
  8. Serve immediately directly from the pan or transfer to plates.

Notes

  • For crispier asparagus, place the sheet pan under the broiler for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  • If you prefer larger steak pieces instead of cubes, cook whole steaks for 6-8 minutes, remove them, add the asparagus, and return the steaks to the pan to finish cooking alongside the vegetables.
  • Use flank steak or strip steak if sirloin is unavailable.
