Enjoy a warm, cozy holiday drink by combining the comforting spices of chai masala with rich hot chocolate. This recipe brings together deep, traditional flavors with a touch of brightness for a perfect winter treat.

Ingredients

  • Milk: 2 cups
  • Good Quality Dark Chocolate Chips or Chopped Chocolate: 1/4 cup
  • Sweetener (Sugar or Maple Syrup): 1-2 tablespoons, to taste
  • Chai Spice Mix: 1 teaspoon (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, black pepper)
  • Black Tea Bag (strong brew): 1
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions

  1. Pour the milk into a small saucepan over medium heat. Do not let it boil.
  2. Add the chai spice mix and the pinch of salt to the warming milk. Whisk gently.
  3. Place the tea bag into the milk mixture. Let it steep for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea flavor. Remove the tea bag.
  4. Reduce the heat to low. Add the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate to the warm milk. Stir constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  5. Stir in your preferred sweetener until dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  6. Pour the Spiced Chai Masala Hot Chocolate into your favorite mug. Serve immediately while it is hot.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, use whole spices like a smashed cardamom pod and a small piece of fresh ginger in the milk while steeping the tea, then strain them out before adding chocolate.
  • Top this drink with a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of cinnamon for a festive finish.
  • If you prefer a lighter drink, you can substitute half the milk with water or a non-dairy alternative like oat milk.
