Experience authentic Thai street food with this quick and flavorful stir-fry of ground beef, fresh basil, and chilies, served over rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4-6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3-5 Thai chilies, thinly sliced (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
  • Cooked jasmine rice, for serving
  • Optional: Fried egg, for topping

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add minced garlic and sliced Thai chilies. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the wok. Break it up with a spoon and stir-fry until browned.
  4. Drain any excess fat from the wok.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and sugar.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef. Stir well to coat.
  7. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  8. Stir in the fresh Thai basil leaves until they just begin to wilt.
  9. Serve immediately over hot jasmine rice. Top with a fried egg if desired.

Notes

  • For a milder dish, remove the seeds from the Thai chilies before slicing.
  • You can substitute ground chicken or pork for beef.
  • Ensure your basil leaves are fresh for the best flavor.
