Ingredients
Scale
2 lbs pork ribs, cut into individual pieces
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (for slurry)
Sesame seeds, for garnish
Chopped green onions, for garnish
Instructions
Place the ribs in a large pot or Dutch oven. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes until tender. Drain the ribs.
While the ribs simmer, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and black pepper in a bowl. This is your sauce base.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the drained ribs and sear on all sides until nicely browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Pour the sauce base over the ribs in the skillet. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing the ribs to absorb the flavor.
Stir the cornstarch slurry well and pour it into the simmering sauce. Stir constantly until the sauce thickens and becomes sticky, coating the ribs. This takes about 1 minute.
Remove from heat. Garnish generously with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
Notes
You can bake the ribs instead of simmering if you prefer a less traditional method. Sear them first, then bake at 375F (190C) for 30 minutes before adding the sauce.
For extra depth, add a teaspoon of brown sugar to the sauce mixture.
Taste the sauce before adding the slurry; adjust sweetness or saltiness to your liking.
