Enjoy a decadent Tres Leches Bread Pudding, a comforting dessert that blends rich, custardy sweetness with the familiar warmth of bread pudding. This recipe balances deep, traditional flavors with a fresh, lighter touch, perfect for your next brunch gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf stale brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • For Topping (Optional): Whipped cream and fresh berries

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the bread cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream.
  5. Slowly pour the milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly until smooth. This is your tres leches soak.
  6. Pour the tres leches soak evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to help the bread absorb the liquid.
  7. Let the bread soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour, pressing occasionally.
  8. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the pudding is set in the center and lightly golden brown on top. A knife inserted near the center should come out mostly clean.
  9. Let the bread pudding cool for about 15 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream and fresh berries if desired.

Notes

  • Using slightly stale bread helps the pudding maintain its structure while soaking up the rich custard.
  • You can prepare this dessert the day before and let it soak overnight in the refrigerator for an even richer flavor.
  • For a brighter finish, you can add a tablespoon of lime zest to the milk mixture.
